Week starting 4th March 2019
What a really thrilling weekend!!! Not solely did Storm Freya attempt very laborious, unsuccessfully fortunately, to blow us all to Kansas Metropolis, however Ulula loved a beautiful birthday sandwich weekend too! The youngest of the Farm’s sheepdogs turned four on Saturday, we celebrated on Sunday for Ulula’s birthday, after which on Monday it’s eldest brother who has a birthday… It was a quiet birthday month for us, however not anymore!!
If I’m being utterly trustworthy, we have been fairly glad of the storm winds on Sunday afternoon, as a stroll in opposition to them helped us get well from the big quantities of birthday cake eaten 😉 What made us rather less jolly was seeing all of the early blossom, which final week felt it was protected to bloom, being blown about like confetti – a reminder if we wanted one to dwell within the second, and so we loved the scent from the plum blossom whereas the youngsters danced underneath the falling petals. Stunning.
Our soil is a heavy clay, which implies that if the cows have been outdoors on the fields through the winter the grass would shortly be churned up and turned to mud. The cows are usually let loose of the barn across the finish of March which is at all times a beautiful sight. For the youthful calves, it will likely be their first expertise of grass underneath their hooves and blue sky straight above them.
The Cow – Roy Wilkinson
Closely, wearily, strikes the cow
Within the peaceable nation scene,
Sleepily nodding in the direction of the bottom
As she grazes the pastures inexperienced.
Her huge, cumbersome mass of a physique
Flops on the earth and he or she appears,
Chewing and chewing and chewing
Misplaced in her personal world of desires.
